What is an Airplane? Nepal 2012

For ages, flying has been an unnacessible dream… even for geniouses like Leonardo Da Vinci. It was simply known as impossible.

But a few people wouldn’t stop dreaming… in 1783 the Montgolfier brothers succeeded in lifting a human in the air thanks to their hot air balloon. Uncontrolled – but still flying! Then in 1891, Otto Lilienthal, thanks to a selfmade glider, was the first to experience what bird might feel. He was able to pilot his glider. And finally, in 1906, the wright brothers succeeded not only in controlling the trajectory of an airplane but also to sustain the flight thanks to a motor. Modern aviation was born.

What do these people all have in common? They wouldn’t believe people telling them their dream was impossible to accomplish. They fought for their dream, succeeded, and participated in shaping the world as we know it today.

With this message in mind we went to Nepal, trying to spread it in the pupils hearts. We tried to explain them the “magic” of flight through theoritical courses and real life demonstrations. We hope we’ve broaden their horizon, and made them believe the impossible is sometimes possible, if you fight hard enough for it.

Oh, you already asked yourself who “we” are?

We are a group of 5 young professionnals from all around the world:

Cesar from Columbia

and myself, from France or Germany (depends how you consider it…)
